Win over Banbridge seals Cup Final opportunity

Enniskillen RFC U16s v Banbridge RFC U16s.

What a setting at Mullaghmeen for a semi-final of the Ulster Cup girl’s rugby match with the sun shining brightly.

Captain Olivia Black managed to win the toss and ERFC girls received the kick off. Straight away from the return, and with great carries by Keri Elliott and Amanda Farrell and the tireless Olivia Beavis, the ball was moved beautifully out to Leah Irwin who showed her normal lovely balanced running to score under the posts. She also converted.
The restart saw a fumble in the backfield but a lovely intercept by Katherine Armstrong and then an offload to Madeline Hamill meant that she ran from her own half to score.
End of the first period and a 14-0 lead.

The second period had a few changes made from our big squad, and scrum half Aimee Ross, who was brilliantly protected by her pack, sent the ball wide on the right wing where Freya Brennan scored a lovely try. Conversion missed.
The ERFC girls put themselves in an even stronger position when Ashley Beaumont, Alex Boyd and Seaneen Farry all made ground and the final offload fell to Sarah Corry who used lovely footwork to score. Converted by Leah Irwin.
Then Maria Elliott made a great tackle on the Banbridge 22 and they spilled ball was picked up by Amy Taylor who passed to Captain Olivia Black to score. Converted by Leah Irwin.
Banbridge eventually got their pack working again. They forced the ball to the try line to score an unconverted try. End of second period and the score was 33-5.

The last period started with one of the moments of the game. Banbridge took a high deep kick off which was fielded on the full and at full pace by Victoria Murray who cut through two tacklers, she then ran the try in from the halfway line. The conversion narrowly missed.
Aimee Ross was now getting lovely ball from the forwards, and she released Katherine Armstrong, who got the ball to the marauding Amy Meeke and Sophie Moore and with a cracking offload to Gemma Elliott, she scored from the halfway line. This time our replacement kicker Freya Brennan slotted the conversion. 45-5.
The Banbridge girls were tiring in the Fermanagh sunshine, and this allowed two more super tries to be scored. The first by Freya Brennan (converted) and then Olivia Black (conversion missed).
The final score 57-5.

It was a complete performance by the full squad of 19 players and it was truly deserving of their place in the Finals Day next Sunday 10th April. It’s a massive boost that ALL Enniskillen Girls Youth teams (U18s, U16s & U14s) are there competing in the premier Cup competition.
